Plant Protection Products
Plant protection products are intended to:
- protect plants or plant products against harmful organisms or prevent the action of such organisms;
- influence the life processes in plants, otherwise than as nutrients, e.g. growth regulators;
- preserve plant products, in so far as such substances or products are not subject to special acts of the European Communities; or
- destroy undesired plants or their parts, check or prevent undesired plant growth.
Following the provisions of the Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council, Commission Regulation (EU) No 283/2013, Commission Regulation (EU) No 284/2013, Commission Regulation (EU) No 546/2011, Commission Regulation (EU) No 547/2011, Act No 326/2004, on phytosanitary care and amendments to certain related acts, and the Decree No 329/2004, concerning plant protection products and other plant protection means, main activities of Plant Protection Products Development are:
- assessment of the compliance of criteria for authorisation of plant protection products, auxiliary plant protection means and bioagents
- evaluation of active substances of plant protection products according to the review programme of the European Commission
- control of plant protection products placed on the market (in cooperation with regional branches of the State Phytosanitary Administration)
- keeping an official list of authorised plant protection products, auxiliary plant protection means and bioagents
- certification of qualification of natural persons or legal entities for testing of plant protection products according to the principles of Good Experimental Practice (GEP)
News in process of authorising of PPPs after 1 July 2023

On 1 July 2023, an amendment to Act No. 326/2004 Coll., on Phytosanitary Care, as amended, will enter into effect and bring changes related to the process of authorising plant protection products (PPPs).
