Forest Management

Forest management and the related processing industry (woodworking, wood pulp-paper and printing industry) are perceived in the EU as one branch based on forestry.

Apart from forests themselves it is formed by:

  • production of wood and products made of wood (including furniture and wood recycling)
  • services and other non-wood products from forests
  • paper industry (including wood pulp production and paper recycling)
  • biomass for energy generation
  • production of chemicals based on wood processing

 Certification of sustainable forest management:

Ideas of sustainable forest management have been applied in the Czech Republic for more than 250 years. They are also a basic standard of the state forest policy, forest law and other generally binding regulations concerning nature and environmental protection.

The certification of forest management provides wood processors and final consumers with a guarantee; the product with a certification label comes from sources meeting the criteria of sustainable management. Nowadays in the Czech Republic more than 71% of forests are certified in the PEFC system (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) and in the FSC system (Forest Stewardship Council).
